The case-specific results from the systems approach will be integrated into the implementation of coastal and marine directives, such as EU Floods, Habitats, Water Framework and Marine Strategy Framework Directives. We will first review the marine and coastal directives with a view towards identifying the need for additional key socio-economic indicators to complement existing ecological indicators. Subsequently, we will focus on selected case studies to illustrate the benefits of integrating of inter-disciplinary information. In this manner, we will demonstrate how SAF facilitates integrate multiple science and policy viewpoints, by i.a. linking the spatial planning for land and sea consistently and supportive to each other. The general lessons learned from the case studies will be synthesized in order to define commonalities and joint issues in different Baltic Sea regions, and to specify needs for future research.
